In the delivery room
Awaiting the third baby. We are in a large suite with a private bathtub and flat couch. It is a very nice accommodation that is available at inova fairlakes. Not sure how they will bill the insurance tho. It is labor day weekend. Hospital is quiet empty with not many patients. The hospital staffs are all people not from the practice we go to. All new faces, no mid-wife on staff. Making you feel like you are not in your familiar place.
RN Annie is very nice and genuine. She spoke highly of the doctor in charge. They are saying the right thing, supportive of your VBAC and decision of unmedicated birth. They offer the bathtub as the only room that have it. They start lighting up candles and setting up string light. Dimming the main light, creating a relax ambient. Bring towel, setting up steps, having to clean up afterward.
I am in this capsule room with all the very nice strangers. First IV line didn't go well, second IV works but both hurts real bad. It was given by a graduate nurse resident. She was real nice, confident and insist on performing that task even after 2 other has offered previously. Later on we find out her blood collection tube is clod. We have to take blood again... On my paranoid side, it feels too great to be real with all this accommodation, Hospital is business, what is the nurse motivation for all this extra work? having bathtub, string light, candles. What is the hospital motivation to build all these amenity? can they bill insurance more? they don't tell you up front. Am i thinking too much, but these are valid points. logical reasoning. It makes me nervous without knowing their true motivation. Is there some conflict of interest or who interest do they have at the foremost.
It is not like they have competition with other hospital that they have to go such above and beyond to provide all these services. For convenience, everyone likely to go to hospital that they are closer to. Sitting here waiting making me think more, even more nervous. Just want this delivery to go smoothly and that the team has the best interest to make it is a unmedicated VBAC.
